Hey, we’re Soul of Adventure. We live for the thrill of getting out there, discovering something new, and leaving everything else behind. And that doesn’t always call for an epic journey—we know the most fun adventure can start in your own backyard.

Ours started with a simple gimbal cover back in 2014. Florida native Thomas DeSernia was an outdoor explorer and weekend fisherman who needed to keep his fishing rod protected in transport and between trips. So he invented and patented this little doo-dad, then went door to door selling it to local tackle shops. Turns out, there were a lot of weekend fishermen just like him who wanted to get outside and have fun, and who were looking for great gear with great value.

So SA was born, and with it, the not-so-novel idea that outdoor fun should be accessible to everyone. (Seriously, how had nobody thought of this before?). Thomas and his team started bringing the same straightforward approach of the original gimbal cover—quality, value, fun—to an amazing range of outdoor apparel and gear that plays as hard as it works. Because sometimes the post-fishing beer with your buddies is even more fun than fishing itself.

GEARING UP

Founder, CEO and avid fisherman Thomas DeSernia invents and patents a gimbal cover, selling it door-to-door at local Florida tackle shops.

OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Salt Armour is born in Thomas's living room, with himself and two childhood buddies taking their own photographs, building their own website, and packing and shipping their own boxes.

LUCKY SHIRT

Salt Armour creates shirts to help promote the gimbal cover, and the shirts become more popular than the gear itself. Before they've sold 600 units, Under Armour files a lawsuit against them for violation of trademark rights. This is the moment the team knows they are officially onto something huge.

A NEW BEGINNING

Salt Armour and Under Armour settle, with an agreement to rebrand as "SA Fishing."

TAKING ORDERS

SA begins shattering records in the fishing space, first fulfilling enough orders to warrant their own USPS truck daily, followed quickly by an entire trailer and then several trailers in quick succession.

THE BIG CATCH

Thomas makes his biggest catch ever, a 250 lb marlin!

MAKING A NAME

Thomas is named to the "Forbes 30 Under 30" list, for reinventing how we shop in the Retail & E-commerce category.

SHOPPING FOR A CAUSE

SA once again has a record-breaking year, selling XX,000,000 face shields during COVID-19. They establish a philanthropic arm, partnering with Operation Gratitude to donate shields to first responders. They provide more than 160,000 face shields to medical and emergency professionals on the front lines.

FINDING OUR SOUL

SA becomes Soul of Adventure, capturing the spirit of its founder and fans—and making the incomparable thrill of getting outdoors accessible to everyone.
